Within an original work of art, an element of the time-honored Rule of Three can be found. In writing, it is the technique of crafting three unique words to express a single idea. In design, the scheme of proportional thirds is used to create interest, tension and energy. With innovation, it is the belief that ‘one time is happenstance, two times is coincidence and three times is intentional.
It is the exploration and application of these principles to the art of hand-crafted textiles that led Los Angeles designer Paige Cleveland to imagine her collection of original hand-marbled silks. In balancing the nuance of design, color, and technique with the organic response of water to paint and fabric, Paige now follows her own Rule of Three.
